row of Christmas trees

Once you've cleaned up for the holiday season, there are a number of ways to dispose of live greenery, such as trees, garlands and wreaths.

Prep: Remove decorations, tinsel, ornaments, and string lights (click here for holiday light recycling).  Remove tree stand.  For garlands and wreaths, remove any decorations, wires, hooks, ribbons and so on.

Option 1: drop-off your tree or greenery at a compost site. There are two in the area that are open during the winter (call first for hours and fees):

Option 2: If you have residential garbage pick-up (a garbage truck picks up your garbage at the curb), you may be able to have your tree picked up for recycling.  Call your garbage hauler to see if they offer tree pick-up service.  If you don’t know their phone number, click here for a directory.  Inquire directly with your hauler for fees and schedule.
